Above is a sample of the Emergency Trail Locator signs now in use in Whitefish Township and the rest of Chippewa County. Many areas are adapting this system which is based on a U. S. Military coordinate system. There is a sign approximately every mile. In case of an accident, reporting the alpha-numeric coordinates of the nearest Emergency Trail Locator sign to the 911 operator is the fastest way to determine the location.
These coordinates are also handy information for non emergency situations such as reporting problems on the trails (trees down, missing signs, etc.) to the local snowmobile clubs. If you see a problem on the trail report it along with the coordinate from the next Emergency Trail Locator sign to the next business you stop at and ask them to contact the local snowmobile club. We can also be contacted by email at this site or by phone at (906) 492-3219 (Paradise Area Chamber of Commerce).
